If you surveyed my thoughts on the Screen Actors Guild Awards where I indicated that “The Hurt Locker” was in trouble for the Oscar win, well…the game has potentially changed again in 24 short hours. The Producers Guild has awarded “The Hurt Locker” with its Best Film prize.

The actors have made their feelings known and in somewhat surprising fashion. First, the Actors Guild surprised many by not nominating “Up In The Air” for its Best Ensemble in a Motion Picture award. The first signs that “Up In The Air” may not have saturated deeply within the Academy’s voters as experts thought. Then, the awards took place and the largest voting body within the Academy bestowed Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds” with its highest honor.

And now the Actors have their say. Tonight’s Screen Actors Guild will give some insight into what the actors’ votes may be on those Oscar ballots that are due today.

Well that was interesting. The Golden Globes have concluded and if you buy into the belief that 80 international journalists can turn the tide of an Oscar race, then tonight switched up the game a bit. Although, if you track back through the Golden Globe Awards recent winners, they match up with Oscar with a lot less frequency. While the debate will rage on about how much Oscar watchers should consider the results of the Golden Globes, significant numbers of voters are in the room and are schmoozing, meeting and greeting, and looking for something to make them check the box or color in the bubble. So, we shall see where things go from here. The Screen Actors Guild weigh in on January 23, 2010, and then its full steam ahead to February 2, 2010 – Nomination morning.
Ricky Gervais takes the mic for the Golden Globe Awards, tonight at 5:00 ET/PT on NBC. Gervais’ caustic wit and sarcasm has been coveted by the Academy the last couple of years for the Oscar telecast. However, Gervais has reportedly turned them down each time, only to accept the job as the first Golden Globes host in many a year. Anticipation is high for the show. Winners will be posted later on in case you miss the show, but here are the film and television nominees.
