The Seattle International Film Festival, Year 44, is here! Tonight, the Opening Night Gala kicks off with Isabel Coixet's drama The Bookshop, a highly acclaimed film, set in a seaside village in 1959  England.

Emily Mortimer stars as Florence, a grieving widow who pursues her lifelong dream of opening a bookshop. As she starts to find success in her local community, a local resident, Violet (Patricia Clarkson), stands in opposition to Florence's shop. With the shop's future in peril, a reclusive community member, Edmund (Bill Nighy), becomes an ally that Florence comes to rely on to keep her bookshop open.

Set to open in theaters on August 24, 2018, The Bookshop launches SIFF on the heels of winning three Goya Awards (Spain's top film prize), including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay, which Coixet adapted from Penelope Fitzgerald's 1978 novel.
