NIGHTSTREAM, a manifestation of five regional film festivals specializing in horror, science-fiction, suspense, thriller, underground and avant garde cinema, begins October 8, 2020. Should I See It is attending the virtual festival and will be sharing thoughts and reviews on films available for viewing through https://nightstream.org/.

Together, the Boston Underground Film Festival (Massachusetts), Brooklyn Horror Film Festival (New York), North Bend Film Festival (Washington), the Overlook Film Festival (Los Angeles, California), and Popcorn Frights Film Festival (Florida) are joining forces under the banner of NIGHTSTREAM to present a dynamic and accessible virtual festival from Oct. 8-11.

This year, NIGHTSTREAM will screen nearly 200 films (approximately 30 features and nearly 200 short films) from around the world.

Opening night kicks off Thursday, October 8 with the World Premiere of Run, co-written and directed by Aneesh Chaganty (Searching) and features Sarah Paulson (Ratched, American Horror Story) and newcomer Kiera Allen. Paulson and Allen shine in this nail-biting, Hitchcockian new thriller about a wheelchair-bound teenager whose fragile, isolated existence with her doting mother is threatened when she begins to notice strange occurrences around her house. A Hulu Original Film.

The Closing Night feature, Mandibles, is the latest film from visionary director Quentin Dupieux (Rubber, Deerskin). Starring acclaimed actress Adèle Exarchopoulos, and the duo of David Marsais and Grégoire Ludig, Mandibles tells a tale of two simple-minded friends who find a giant fly stuck in the trunk of a car and set themselves up to train it to earn money with it. Originally set to premiere at the Telluride Film Festival. A Magnolia Pictures Release.

Additional highlights include the World Premiere of Ryûhei Kitamura’s The Doorman, a punishing action-thriller starring Ruby Rose as a former Marine turned doorman at a luxury New York City high-rise who must outsmart and battle a group of art thieves and their ruthless leader (Jean Reno), all while struggling to protect her sister’s family. As the thieves become increasingly desperate and violent, the doorman calls upon her deadly fighting skills to end the showdown. A Lionsgate release.

With the festival virtual, attendees can view featured conversations with Candyman director Nia DaCosta, Mary Harron on the 20th Anniversary of American Psycho, and “Dinner With The Masters Of Horror,” hosted by festival honoree Mick Garris. Additional Q&A’s and special events are included along the way.
